Yep--DA replaced Billy Zoom for one album and a tour or two. For the life of me I can't recall the album--I bet BlueDevil knows. Dave is one of my all-time faves--great writer, smokin' guitarist. I love all his stuff...

"Poor Little Critters in the Road" - that's the Knitters.

From Wikpedia (so you know it must be true):
X
Shortly after leaving the Blasters, Alvin joined X as lead guitarist after the departure of Billy Zoom. Alvin amicably left the group to work on a solo project shortly after the recording sessions for their album See How We Are. Dave is also a member of country band The Knitters (composed mainly of members of X), appearing on 1987's Poor Little Critter on the Road and the 2005 follow-up, The Modern Sounds of The Knitters.

I knew you'd have it..."See How We Are", that's the one. Killer 4th of July with John and Exene. Love Poor Little Critter, it has my favorite version of Rock Island Line (my grandfather was an engineer on the Rock Island for almost 40 years, so I'm especially partial to that tune).
Hey--are you hip to The Pleasure Barons? DA, Mojo Nixon, Country Dick Montana (RIP), and other SoCal luminaries (including John Doe on one tour).
Great band, lotsa fun while it lasted...

Thanks for that - spent many a night with Mojo and Skid in NC and Va. One of the funnest tours ever was the Pogues (with Shane), Violent Femmes, and Mojo and Skid. Mojo opened, then the Femmes, then the Pogues, and lots of playing together between the various acts.

Sounds like a fun show--Shane McGowan may have met his match in Mojo. What a nut (and I mean that in a good way). He now has a daily gig on Sirius' Outlaw Country station--great stuff.
The basic premise of the Pleasure Barons was they were a Vegas lounge act from some off the strip third rate casino. "Live In Las Vegas"is their lone recording and contains Take a Letter Maria, Jackson, Who Do You Love and the great Definitive Tom Jones Medley from Country Dick; Louisiana Lip Lock, Debbie Gibson is Pregnant, and Amos Moses from Mojo; and DA plays it a little straighter with Closing Time, Games People Play, and a mind-blowing Gangster of Love (this one tune makes the whole release indispensible). It's on Hightone Records, but currently out of stock. If interested, I'll burn you a copy. Give me a shout and I'll shoot you my e-mail addy.

belated response - sorry, i pop in and pop out while at work (hence my disjointed responses). I'd love a copy, but feel free to wait and drop it off if you ever plan to come down this way and I'll hook you up for the aquarium like doing for JOTS and his soon to be mrs.

Super belated response...thanks for the kind offer of the Aquarium hook up, Mr. bluedevil. No current plans to head your way, but our 5 year old would love a return visit , I'm sure. Maybe late fall or early spring. I'd like to get a copy of the Pleasure Barons to you, so again I'll offer to burn you a copy and send off, as I have no idea when we'll get to Monterey. If you want, let me know and I'll get you my contact info.
